Expert paddler Mike Svob
has been canoeing and kayaking the rivers of the Midwest for 30 years.
He paddled more than a thousand miles to complete these books. Below
are brief descriptions of the canoe trips that Mike goes into detail
with in his books with maps. The maps are very useful, showing rapids,
take in and take out points and other things of interest. |

Menominee-Niagra
to Piers Gorge Landing-3.2 miles.
This is a short whitewater run on
a big and powerful river. This is
for advanced and expert paddlers only.
The stretch downstream from the city
of Niagra is definitely a Class III+
. At Sand Portage Falls at 1.6 miles
enter the Class II+ rapids. The river
splits around an island and the biggest
rapids are on the right.. Another
wide flatwater stretch follows. When
you see a sandy landing on the left
head for it to scout the big drops
ahead. Some riffles and Class I rapids
precede the 10 foot drop of Missicot
Falls at 2.4 miles The main chute
is about 35 feet from the right shore
with huge waves at the bottom. Just
downstream from that is a huge boulder
known as Volkswagen Rock. Next the
river bends through some gorges and
drops several feet in the Twin Sisters
rapids Class II-III. After some Class
I rapids is the last drop, Terminal
Surfer. Be careful of the huge hole
in the middle of the ledge. It is best
to stay to the fart right.Take out
at the gravel landing on the left
about 400 yards below terminal surfer.
The landing is off Piers Gorge Road.
