Wyalusing State Park

Wyalusing State Park is located in Grant County. Go twelve miles south of Prairie du Chien on Highway 18 and cross the Wisconsin River Bridge, then turn west on County C. Follow Highway C to Highway X. Turn right on Highway X and go one mile to the park entrance. The park is open year-round from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Wyalusing offers several camping opportunities for visitors, with two family campgrounds, an outdoor group camp and the Hugh Harper indoor group camp. The Wisconsin Ridge and Homestead campgrounds have 109 regular campsites. A dump station for camper holding tanks is near the entrance to the Homestead campground. The outdoor group camp has 5 sites with a capacity of 130 persons. The outdoor group camp is near the Wisconsin Ridge campground.

There are nine trails ranging in length from one mile to three miles. There als is a six mile long canoe trail through the backwaters of the Mississippi. Sand Cave Trail is a washed out areas of limestone with small waterfalls.

Recreation and activities include hiking, biking, camping, picnicking, canoeing, boating, kayaking, fishing, hunting, trapping and cross-country skiing.

    Camping in Wisconsin


    Campgrounds in Wisconsin are as varied as the areas around them--there are forests, prairies, lakes, rivers, hills, and valleys. You'll find campgrounds, trails, historic and archaeological sites, places for solitude and places for large group gatherings. There are also Campgrounds in county parks, state parks and national forests.

    A typical campsite is in a natural setting with road access, a fire ring, and a picnic table, and can be used by either vehicle or tent campers. But there also are backpack, walk-in, and canoeing -in sites, sites with electrical hookups, and sites designed specifically for either tent or vehicle campers. Some sites are accessible for people with disabilities. Some are for people with horses.     National Forest - The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest is located in Wisconsin's Northwoods, covering over a million and a half acres. The Chequamegon side of the forest covers about 858,400 acres in Ashland, Bayfield, Sawyer, Price, Taylor, and Vilas counties while the Nicolet side covers nearly 661,400 acres in Florence, Forest, Langlade, Oconto, Oneida, and Vilas counties.
